8 Affirmations for Reclaiming Our Identity in Seasons of Transition

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. - Proverbs 18:21.

Hey LBOD Community!

I don’t know about y’all, but this year feels so long already? LOLL

If you follow me across social media (which, you should!) then you already know that on February 19th, my sister and I officially launched our law firm!

That’s right, Scott-Johnson & Smith LLP is open for business. 🎉 Tell a friend to tell a friend! 🥳

My sister and I have made Black History in our own rights as the first lawyers and law firm owners in our family.

Looking back on our journey, the things we’ve been through and seen, I couldn’t even begin to explain here.

And to know that it was all preparing us for this very moment.

It all birthed in us the grit, grace, and grind that we needed to be the firsts and chase after things we had never seen before.

I have been struggling to put into words what this transitional season of life feels like.

I am…elated, grateful, overwhelmed, overjoyed, nervous, grieving the certainty of my last season while embracing the freedom in the uncertainty of this season!

Chillee literally all the feels, and all at once.

We know that with new levels, new freedom, comes great responsibility.  The unfamiliarity we face in seasons of transition, as exciting as it is, is also uncomfortable.

And as we’ve explored in past blogs, life waits on no one.

Life does not care that I’ve entered an exciting new journey of entrepreneurship.

Death, loss, grief, setbacks, have all presented themselves in this phase as they did the last.

I continue to experience firsthand the authenticity of the saying that “the mind is a battlefield.”

To fight this constant war, I have had to dig deep into my toolkit and rely on the inner work that brought me this far.

In this season, I have been relying particularly heavy on affirmations, rooted in scripture, to rewrite the stories in my mind and remind me who and whose I am.

I have had to rewrite the “did God really say?,” the “I cant’s,” and “but God are you sure?’s,” and lay the fertile ground necessary to blossom in this beautiful season of transition.

So, I wanted to share the eight affirmations that have blessed me and are actively reshaping the way I think and approach this season.

AFFIRMATIONS:

  1. I am God’s masterpiece.  (Ephesians 2:10).

  2. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, graced to birth great things in the earth. (Ephesians 2:10; Psalms 139:14-16).

  3. I allow gratitude to quell the anxieties of my heart. (Philippians 4:6).

  4. I allow God’s peace to guard my heart from worry and anxious thoughts. (Philippians 4:7).

  5. I have what I need to accomplish all that God has set before me in this season and those to come.  (2 Corinthians 9:8).

  6. God’s grace is sufficient to carry me through this new season. (2 Corinthians. 12:9-10).

  7. I can meet challenges with courage and boldness. (Joshua 1:9).

  8. My testimony is powerful and necessary. (Revelation. 12:11).

I pray that these affirmations will help you to replant yourself when fears and doubt inevitably creep in.

I pray that they would remind, or reveal for the first time, exactly who God says that you are.

I pray that these words, rooted in God’s truth about who we are, would plant themselves deeply within you, take root, and as they grow that they would mark the start of something new, beautiful, and powerful beyond your dreams.

Now, I know it’s been a while, but let’s please act like you know we walk in gratitude over here!

Today, I am grateful that even when I forget, my identity in Christ is certain.

🗣️ Let me know in the COMMENTS:

1) What are you grateful for?

AND

2) Which affirmation is speaking to your soul the most in this season?

Freely,
