How Much More?: Hold Your Gaze

I recently got some not so great or expected news on a case I’d been working on.

Instead of rushing into action and making panicked decisions like I normally would, I did something out of my norm. I paused and did nothing. I slept on it. And the next morning the Lord put “No Worries” by Cejae on my heart. I listened to the song on repeat for hours and went to a familiar passage of scripture, Matthew 6. Now, Matthew 6:25-34 is usually what hits for me! But this time, the Holy Spirit had me to meditate on 6:22-23.

Today, I don’t have our usual, polished blog post.

Instead, I simply offer the stream of consciousness reflections, a journal entry, that flowed as I meditated on that passage. I encourage you to read and meditate on all of Matthew 6:19-34 for yourself and welcome the Holy Spirit before diving into my reflections. I pray that you would be blessed by His Word just as I was.

A weight lifted that day. The work situation was still the same. But I wasn’t. And isn’t that just like our God.

Reflections from Matthew 6:22-23:

The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” - Matthew 6:22-23 NIV

Keep our gaze fixed on the Father. When and as we do, He fills us with His light. In this space, our perspective is proper, we are at peace.

Our trust flows more freely because we know “how much more!”

Worries fade in this place. Clarity flows.

But when our gaze shifts and we are worried about money, taking on other’s anxieties, entertaining lies of failure, defeat, and disappointment, we allow darkness in.

And because we are not looking to the proper place, it’s easy to not even know we are operating in darkness! Because without our Light to show us the darkness, we are lost! Perspective is distorted. Stress controls. Peace erodes.

Remember, it is on Him that we rely. And how much more does He love us?! His babies? The ones He sent His son to die for, the ones He chases after, the ones for whom He leaves the 99 to save, the ones He knew before He formed us in our mothers’ wombs and calls His very own.

How much more does He love YOU?! The daughter who puts her hope and trust in Him. The one who’s given her life to serve Him?

Me, the one who considers Him in all she does. He’s never hidden his face from me! I’m the one He’s used countless times to bless others, whose heart He’s written His word on, the one whose body He’s made His very own temple and dwells within. Miracle after miracle He’s allowed me to witness. Restoration, redemption, freedom, it’s all been my portion!

Overflow, abundance, no good thing ever withheld…

How much more?! Will He keep His promises to His very ownnnnn. How much more will the One who cannot lie, whose promises cannot return void, the One who’s not the son of man who should repent, that One!

How much more will He be the God that He Is? He is and He will.

He cannot fail.

The Lord is changing me.

PRAYER:

Lord, please help your child to keep her gaze fixed on You. There is so much in this world battling for her mind, heart, and attention. But You are all that truly matters. Help her to surrender daily. And as she does, I pray that you would fill her with Your Spirit. Pour out fresh wisdom, courage, peace, and healing over her. Give her the strength to trust You with her life. Lead her deeper into Your living Word and refresh her soul. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Freely,

Latiera
